Nancy and the Jam Fancys lean into tension on “Higher Than Usual,” a track that opens at full tilt before slipping into something more restrained and rhythmic; a step forward into a broader, more controlled sound without losing their edge.

Verses hang in a kind of atmospheric drift, with lines demanding answers falling into one another, while the chorus cuts through with a driving and confrontational clarity. As the song progresses, that balance starts to erode, repetition builds, edges blur, and the whole thing begins to feel like it might implode.

Instead, it holds just long enough to collapse into a final chorus that’s louder, tighter, and more unguarded than anything before it.

“Higher Than Usual” is the first look into Nancy and the Jam Fancys’ upcoming body of work, a series of songs built on tension, repetition and release. It circles the idea that outside pressure doesn’t stay outside for long, getting pulled inward and amplified until it starts to fracture. Rather than telling a single story, the project captures that slow push past breaking point, and marks a clear step forward in the band’s sound and intent.

Out May 1st "Higher Than Usual" lands ahead of a new run of shows, part sneer, part spiral, the track feels like a conversation happening half a second too late and slightly out of phase. Outfolding live now.
